Some families are connected by blood. Others are connected by a shared dream. The Daja Family from Davao is united by both a passion for sports, a commitment to hard work and a belief that success is earned through sacrifice and perseverance.
Their story is not just about talented athletes. It is about a family that embraced sports as a way of life, inspiring many young players to chase their own dreams.
Leading this journey is Coach Erian Daja, a former basketball player who competed in the Metropolitan Basketball Association (MBA) and Liga Pilipinas. After his playing career, he made one of the biggest decisions for his family to leave Davao and move to Manila in search of better opportunities for his children. It was a leap of faith driven by a father’s dream of giving his family a brighter future through education and sports.
That sacrifice began to bear fruit.
His eldest son, Ernest Daja continues his basketball journey as a player for the De La Salle–College of Saint Benilde Blazers earning the opportunity to compete at one of the country’s respected collegiate programs through years of dedication and hard work.
His younger son, Ervin Daja, was selected to represent the Philippines as a member of Batang Gilas. He competed in the 2024 FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup in Turkey gaining invaluable experience against some of the world’s best young players. Today, he continues his journey in the UAAP with De La Salle carrying with him the lessons and confidence gained on the international stage.
Today, Coach Erian has come full circle. He is now part of the PASSION Sports coaching staff currently handling the PASSION Elite Team U19 while also assisting in the Development Program at Lumera Gym, Manila. His experience as both a former professional player and a father who has guided his own children allows him to mentor young athletes not only in basketball skills but also in discipline, leadership, sacrifice and character.
His commitment to development is reflected in the achievements of his children.
The family’s passion extends beyond basketball. Their daughter is now part of the PASSION Summer Volleyball Camp, beginning her own athletic journey while embracing the same values of discipline, humility and perseverance that have guided her family.
From Davao to national and international stages, the Daja Family proves that dreams are achieved through years of preparation, countless sacrifices, and unwavering support for one another. Their journey reminds us that success is not measured only by championships or recognition, but by the character built along the way and the lives that inspire others.
