At PASSION Sports, we always say that player development is not just about basketball. It is about the people behind every athlete, the parents who sacrifice, the families who believe and the dreams that inspire the journey.
One story that truly embodies this is the story of Sir Jun-Jun Villaseñor and his son, Makoy.
Their connection with us started long before they became part of the PASSION family. During Coach Rob Labagala’s days as a player in Liga Pilipinas with the Quezon Red Oilers, Sir Jun-Jun was already one of the team’s loyal supporters. Through the years, they continued following the journey, believing in what sports can do to shape young lives and create opportunities.
Last year, they finally had the opportunity to meet in person.
During their conversation, Sir Jun-Jun shared a simple but meaningful dream to one day become part of the PASSION program and give Makoy the opportunity to learn, grow and develop as a player.
That dream soon became a reality.
Makoy started his journey through our Training Camp at Lumera Gym in Manila. Every weekend, he and his father would travel all the way from Lucena City to Manila just to attend training sessions.
For many people, that may sound like a simple trip. But for a family pursuing a dream, it meant sacrificing time, energy, resources and weekends. It meant waking up early, spending hours on the road and choosing development over convenience.
They understood that growth requires commitment.
Session after session, Makoy continued showing up. He embraced the process, listened to coaching, learned new skills and gradually became part of the PASSION culture.
Today, Makoy is proudly part of the PASSION Elite Team Program, where he continues to develop through team practices, games, and competitive experiences.
His journey reminds us that success rarely happens overnight.
The sacrifices parents make today may not immediately show results. The long drives, the early mornings and the countless hours invested in development may not always produce instant rewards. But through hard work, consistency, patience and faith, those sacrifices eventually bear fruit.
Makoy’s story is still being written.
And while we do not know exactly where basketball will take him, one thing is certain he is building the habits, character and foundation that will help him succeed both on and off the court.
To Sir Jun-Jun and Makoy, thank you for trusting the process and believing in the vision of PASSION Sports.
Your journey is a reminder that dreams are not achieved by talent alone. They are built through sacrifice, commitment, perseverance and unwavering faith.
At PASSION Sports, we are honored to be part of that journey.
